How We Got Our Names

Everyone asks us how we got our names
It really is quite simple; they just fit who we are

I am Josie Smarty-pants Nibbles
Smarty-pants is simple, that was the
Name of my mate, he was a very
Clever budgie and suited that name

Nibbles is what I like to do to my
Mommy’s ears, but especially to
Shining jewellery I want for my very own
So she gave me all the names and that is
What I’m called

I’m Kiko-san Chatterbox and I live up
To my name, I chatter all day long so
Chatterbox is my last name
Kiko means a life child and she
Told me that I had such a will to live
She had to name me that

So you see our names are quite
Ordinary just like human children
Who have very different names
It doesn’t really matter what you
Are called, you are loved just the same

Reading ‘How We Got Our Names’ I can see Josie nibbling on your ears like she always does and I can hear the ever chattering Kiko-san chattering away about how his day has has gone…this poem is so wonderful in how it tells children that they are loved no matter what…I have a good feeling within myself when I read these lines.
